Jr. Dragster Season Roars to Life at Texas Raceway
The first day of the 2004 Texas Raceway Jr. Dragster Series was run under
picture perfect blue skies with 45 racing teams in attendance. The race has
begun for the 30 available spots on the Texas Raceway teams for the Western
Conference Finals in the summer in Colorado and for the track?s season
championships in four classes.
2003 Track Champion John Long, Jr. of Cleburne, TX led the qualifying in the VP
Racing Fuels Quick 16 with an elapsed time of 8.019 at 81.84 miles per hour, but
it was Ian Dunaway of North Richland Hills, TX who claimed the winner?s trophy
with a final round holeshot and 8.965 e.t. over Paige Caprio of Colleyville, TX
who broke out with a 9.949 run.
Race Woods of Arlington, TX started the year with a new car and a victory in the
Modified Eliminator class for 10-12 year-olds. Ryan Harrod of Burleson, TX was
Woods? opponent in the final round. Race ran a 9.323 e.t. to win over Ryan?s
8.836 break-out on an 8.90 dial-in.
Former Modified Eliminator Champion Travis Bell faced John Long, Jr. in the Top
Eliminator final round and claimed the trophy at the starting line when John
left too early and turned on the red light. Travis ran 8.3139 at 76.45 mph and
John ran an 8.153 at 80.31 mph.
Gunner Courtney of Springtown, TX faced Mallory Evilsizer of Midlothian, TX in
the final round of the 8-9 year-olds? class, Sportsman Eliminator. Mallory had
the holeshot at the start but broke out at the finish line as Gunner?s top-end
charge had him closing fast with a spped advantage of almost 7 miles per hour.
Both cars broke out, but Gunner broke out less and claimed the trophy for the
win.
Jessica Tyson of Colleyville, TX and Victor Mena of Grapevine squared off in the
final round of Consolation Eliminator after working their way through a 14-car
field. ?Miss Behavin?? used a .063 reaction time and an 8.330 e.t. to put her
new dragster in the winner?s circle over ?Vicious Vic?s? 9.618 e.t. at 64.64
miles per hour.
Jr. Dragster racing is alive and well at Texas Raceway, and the 2004 points
chase resumes Saturday, March 20th. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and time trials
begin by 9:00 a.m.
